Resume writing, resume reviews and interview coaching from an IT recruiter in Perth. I know what hiring managers look for on a first read, because screening IT resumes is what I've done for a living.
My background is IT talent acquisition. I've recruited inside an IT company and for external clients, across support, infrastructure, development, security and project roles, and I've worked in employee relations. I've read a lot of resumes and heard exactly why candidates get shortlisted or passed over. I use that to help you present your experience the way IT hiring managers in Australia expect to see it.
I help IT professionals get interviews and turn them into offers. That covers resume reviews, full resume writing, LinkedIn and job search strategy, interview coaching and general career advice, all from someone who has worked as an IT recruiter.
A good writer can make a resume read well. A recruiter knows what gets it shortlisted. I’ve screened resumes for service desk, infrastructure, development, cyber security and project roles, so I know which details a hiring manager looks for and which ones they skip straight past.
Service desk and IT support, systems administrators and engineers, network engineers and architects, software developers and engineers, solutions architects, cyber security analysts, GRC consultants, IT project managers and IT business analysts. If your role is close to one of these, I can most likely help.
Most Australian employers and agencies use an ATS to collect and search applications. I keep the layout simple (no tables, text boxes or key details hidden in headers), use the job titles and skills that appear in the ads you’re targeting, and make sure it still reads naturally to the person who opens it next. Nobody can honestly promise a pass rate, so be wary of anyone selling an ‘ATS score’.
Two to three pages suits most experienced IT professionals. Graduates and people starting out can usually keep it to one or two. Length matters less than page one: your recent roles, your core technical skills and evidence of what you actually delivered.
No. Australian resumes don’t include a photo, date of birth, marital status or your full street address. Your suburb and state are enough.
Yes. Many people I work with have solid overseas IT experience but get very few replies here. I help with how that experience comes across to Australian employers: equivalent job titles, a line of context about each company, and stating your work rights clearly. I don’t give migration or visa advice. For that, please speak to a registered migration agent.
No, and I’d be careful with anyone who does. Hiring decisions sit with employers. What I can do is make sure your resume, LinkedIn profile and interview answers give you a fair shot at the roles you’re qualified for.
Call 0469 806 965, email [email protected] or use the contact form. Tell me the roles you’re aiming for and send your current resume if you have one, and I’ll suggest the best place to start.
